Used baby carriers: our advice on second-hand Studio Romeo
Textiles, furniture… Today, second-hand is clearly on the rise. And we understand why: it’s good for the planet and for the wallet.
With the arrival of a baby, the childcare budget can quickly explode from the birth - we often talk about €1000 to €2000 of childcare budget per household, just for the essentials. So yes, second-hand can be a practical solution to limit costs while consuming more responsibly.
But be careful, buying your baby carrier second-hand can also have some limits. At Studio Romeo, we prefer to play it safe for textiles like baby carriers, because the comfort and safety of your little one remain our priority.

Used and baby carriers: be careful of wear and tear
A baby carrier or sling is a bit like a pair of shoes: it adapts to its user. Made of cotton, the fabric of our baby carriers and slings gently molds to your baby's weight and shape over time, to fit their shape. And that's where it can get stuck with the second hand.
Textile is a "living" material. Depending on the weight of the wearer, the baby's morphology or even the way the product has been washed and maintained, the fabric can become more elastic or lose some of its hold . As a result, a used baby carrier may not offer the same comfort or safety as a new model.

Washing & care recommendations for Studio Romeo baby carrier
To ensure that our baby carriers retain their shape and comfort, we recommend machine washing at 30°C, 400 rpm max, without spinning or tumble drying . These precautions are essential to preserve the product and guarantee its quality over time.
The problem with second-hand? It is impossible to know if these maintenance tips were followed by the previous owners. If the baby carrier has been poorly washed or treated, it may come out damaged, deformed or weakened . Result: less comfort for your baby and, in the worst case, risks to his safety.

Old collections: models that have had their day
On the second-hand market, some models in circulation can be more than 10 years old ! And even if all washing precautions have been taken, the fabric has surely undergone natural wear, which can make it less firm and more relaxed.
Some older models are no longer quite the same as those available today . This is especially true for our Duo double-band baby carriers , which have evolved since their creation. The sizes may therefore differ from those currently offered on our site.
To know the age of your product, a good idea is to take a look at the label, where its manufacturing date appears . But keep in mind that our team will not be able to advise you on a second-hand model, nor give you any information on the right choice of size.

Beware of counterfeiting
Another risk associated with buying second-hand models is counterfeiting. It is not uncommon to come across products presented as "Studio Romeo" creations when they are not. To avoid unpleasant surprises, the best thing to do is to check the label: our logo is always there , it is the guarantee that you have in your hands an authentic product.

Our mission: supporting parents over time
At Studio Romeo, our mission is simple: to support parents in their babywearing adventure, from the very first days of their child's life. But to remain true to this mission, we cannot guarantee or commit to products sold on second-hand platforms.
