It's time for vacations and relaxation. One thing has changed this year, however, a small detail, nothing at all... You have a baby! So, how are summer vacations with a newborn going? Find all our tips and tricks from parents for your first vacation.
How to travel?
By car, you can decide to travel at night. Fewer people, less heat! And if baby doesn't sleep through the night and is hungry, it doesn't change much since you have to take breaks every 2 hours anyway.
On the train or plane, our secret weapon is the baby carrier. To be whipped out if baby is grumpy or has trouble falling asleep. A little stroll in the corridors and off we go...
On a plane, it is recommended to give your baby something to drink during takeoff and landing to avoid earache. It also works with a pacifier, because it is the principle of suction that provides relief.
The secret: don't worry about what other people think, especially if your baby is crying. Children are part of life, you do your best and that's perfect.
Where to go?
With a newborn, it's not time for a 12-hour road trip or a trek through the Amazon jungle. Focus on comfort and cocooning moments.
Think family home, hotels where you are taken care of, all-inclusive offers... If you are with family, get your loved ones involved to help you.
Choose a place where you can wash your clothes so you can travel lighter.
Finally, be realistic about your abilities and your new needs as parents. Going to Ibiza to party with your group of friends is likely to be… complicated, frustrating and exhausting.
What are we taking?
Before leaving, check if your vacation spot has the necessary equipment (travel cot, deckchair, baby bath).
Otherwise, consider renting which will save you from having to take the contents of your house with you.
Don't forget your baby carrier, less bulky than a stroller, lighter and easier. Perfect for walks and impromptu naps.
Little reminder: the sling is suitable from birth up to 10 kilos. The Duo can be used from 3 months up to 12 kilos. The UP&Go is for older children who can sit up alone, up to 15 kilos and more if they like.
