Our new Onbuhimo Up&Go baby carrier

April 20, 2020

Because we have always been inspired by motherhood and because we are committed to simplifying your daily life and helping foster closeness with your child as you share adventures together, we decided to expand our line of baby carriers. We are very pleased to present the newest addition to our product range: the Onbuhimo UP&GO baby carrier.

What is an Onbuhimo?

An Onbuhimo or “onbu” is a Japanese-style back carrier. It can be used once a child is able to sit unassisted (minimum of 6 months and 15 lbs). You’ll love this practical, ergonomic baby carrier. It features two shoulder straps and goes on like a backpack. It is very easy to put on and take off and offers the added advantage of having no waistband. Since it causes no compression on the belly, it is ideal for pregnant women who want to carry their child.

Why choose this Onbuhimo?

This new baby carrier rounds out our product range, which includes the skin-to-skin Easy Lover model for newborns, as well as the Duo, our alternative to complicated and cumbersome slings. We created the UP&GO to offer the continuity of being able to carry your children for as long as possible. Also, as mentioned earlier, the UP&GO is the ideal baby carrier for expecting mothers because it does not press on the belly.

The baby carrier designed by Studio Romeo

Our workshops dedicated many months to developing this new model. We wanted a product that was practical, comfortable and adaptable.

  • Adaptable thanks to its adjustable back and seat width. It is suitable for children weighing 15–33 pounds or more, once the child can sit unassisted.
  • Comfortable for both the child and the wearer. It features padded shoulder straps as well as additional padding under the child’s thighs.
  • Our main motivating factor is to create simple baby carriers to make daily life easier. The Up&GO is worn like a backpack. No knots, no complicated clasps, rings or buckles to attach. You won’t ever have to worry about whether you have put it on correctly.
  • It is compact in size and folds upto fit easily into any bag. Your “Onbu” will always be on hand when you need it.
  • The Onbuhimo should be washed by hand.

A safe, ergonomic baby carrier

The safety of our children is our prime concern. The new Onbuhimo ergonomic baby carrier is approved by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute, which has classified it as a “hip-healthy”product. All our baby carriers have been tested and complywith European safety standard NF EN 13209-2.

A stylish baby carrier

Since we believe that beautiful objects enhance our daily life, our baby carrier is available in two elegant colors. Discover the Onbuhimo UP&GO in Black or Nude. We chose these two neutral colors because they go with everything.

Our thanks to all of you for showing an interest in this new product on our social media networks. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us on our Studio Romeo Instagram account.

Size guide

1. WHICH SIZE SHOULD I CHOOSE?

Our baby carriers are currently available in two sizes : T1 and T2. The fabric is stretchy enough to adapt as best as possible to both the wearer's and the baby's bodies.

Generally, T1 suits sizes from S to M and T2 suits larger sizes.

Important: The fabric will soften and relax during use and as the baby grows. It’s normal that the baby carrier feel a little snug during the first use.

And since each body is unique, you can try it quietly at home to see if it suits you and if not, you can send it back for a refund ;)

2. THE SIZE IS TOO SMALL - BABY IS TOO SQUASHED

You may experience a feeling of tightness but the goal is ultimately that the baby is held firmly against you and does not move, just like with a classic carrier. For the newborn position, depending on the morphology of both the baby and the wearer, it can quickly become restrictive. You can therefore place them into the sitting position early by respecting their physiological position and the natural spacing of their hips. The seating position will feel less snug as the legs will be out.

Also, do not hesitate to flatten the fabric on your back to leave more on the front.

Important: The fabric will soften and relax during use and as the baby grows.

3. THE SIZE IS TOO LARGE - BABY IS TOO LOW

Indeed your child should not be too low, or at least the position should remain as comfortable for them as it is for you and your baby should remain within reach for kisses. If this is not the case, you can make a loop with the fabric on each shoulder. You can make a loop by twisting the side of the scarf and reversing the hems so that the fabric is shortened and the baby is slightly lifted (see video section).

You can also wash your sling (30° or Warm setting in the washing machine) so that the fabric shrinks back to the original size (the product cannot be reimbursed once washed).
